The End Of Paper Savings Bonds
As of December 31, 2011, paper savings bonds will no longer be available. But savings bonds themselves are not going away! They are simply being replaced by electronic savings bonds. Starting in January, 2012, Series EE Savings Bonds will be available for purchase through TreasuryDirect®, a secure, web-based system.
If you currently hold paper savings bonds, they will continue to earn interest for 30 years from their issue date or until you redeem them at Greater Cincinnati Credit Union or any other financial institution.
